Artist's Comments

Once upon a time, this sculpture was supposed to resemble a shell and a piece of driftwood I found on the beach. Another one from art college. Plaster, 2 and a half weeksish? My first real attempt at any 3-d piece of artwork. It's much nicer to look at in person. Unfortunatley, I did not take this photo either, and the sculpture has since been thrown away thanks to the exploits of my father. Oh well, it was fun to make.

Did you carve the plaster, or mold it?

It's a chicken-wire frame which I bent into the shape I wanted. Then burlap strips soaked in plaster around that, and loads and loads of plaster around that. To get the texture, I waited for the plaster to be quite thick, then slapped it on and pretty much massaged the sculpture in cirlces with my hand. A lot of fun to make.
